Mozzarella sticks without marinara are like cannolis with no filling! Botticelli Marinara has a homemade taste and less sugar than most other marinaras on the market, so it gets 2 thumbs up from this dietitian. My delicious “Low Carb Mozzies with Marinara” come together quick and easy with just a few ingredients and are perfect for parties or an easy weeknight dinner (yes, it’s ok to eat mozzarella sticks for dinner sometimes!) Here’s the Recipe! Low Carb Mozzarella Sticks with Marinara: •12 mozzarella cheese sticks aka string cheese • 2 eggs • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese • ½ cup of almond flour • 1 tsp of Italian seasoning • 1/2 tsp garlic powder • 1/2 tsp salt • 1-2 cups of Botticelli Marinara sauce (for dipping!) • Vegetable oil or olive oil for pan frying (if you choose to pan fry)
Instructions:
️⃣ If baking the mozzarella sticks, preheat oven to 400 F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
️⃣ Beat the 2 eggs in a small or medium size bowl
️⃣ In another medium size bowl, mix together almond flour, parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt and Italian seasoning.
️⃣ Cut each mozzarella stick in half (I prefer it this way, but you can also leave the stick whole)
️⃣ Dip the mozzarella sticks in the egg, then in the almond/ parmesan mixture, then back in the egg and almond/ parmesan mixture again.
️⃣ Place the sticks in the freezer for 45 minutes to an hour.
️⃣ If baking, place the mozzarella sticks on the parchment lined baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes until golden brown, make sure to watch closely after around 6/7 minutes, if they get too “melty” they will lose their shape. If frying, preheat the oil in pan over medium-high heat and pan-fry the mozzarella sticks until they are golden brown on all sides.
️⃣ Serve with marinara for dipping, enjoy!
